The Ditching Disposables Stirling Pilot project has now come to a close and cafes in Stirling will no longer be issuing cups to customers or accepting returns. If you have a cup that you wish to return to reclaim your deposit, then you can still return this to Transition Stirling (rather than the original café). You can find us at 5 Wellgreen Lane, Stirling, FK8 2BS. Our opening times are 10-12pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. We are also open 4-6pm on a Thursday.
The Ditching Disposables pilot project to test reusable, returnable cups across a network of cafes has provided some valuable learning and we thank you for participating in this scheme. Zero Waste Scotland, the project funder, is using this learning to help plan future initiatives around returnable cups. Transition Stirling will follow these developments and we hope to launch a permanent reusable, returnable cup scheme at some point in the near future.
The Ditching Disposables project is funded by Zero Waste Scotland to support cafes in Stirling to reduce the consumption of disposable, single-use cups and lids.
Around 200 million single-use disposable cups are used in Scotland every year! Zero Waste Scotland estimate that single use disposable cups generate around 4,000 tonnes of waste every year in Scotland.
Independent cafes in Stirling are signing up to do their bit to reduce disposable cups by replacing these with reusable Ditching Disposable cups and lids.
How does it work?
You, the customer, can choose to have your takeaway drink of choice in a reusable cup for a £1 deposit.
Once you’ve finished, you can drop off your cup off to any of the participating cafes to get your deposit back.
You can also have the same cup refilled, or swap the cup for a fresh one.
Once used, the cups and lids will be cleaned by the café in an industrial dishwasher to 50ºC so that they are ready to be used again and again.
